DEWALT LAUNCHES SITE-PRO™ MODULAR GUARDING SYSTEM

Press Release

– Adjustable, Tool-Free Guard System for Table Saws Provides Increased Visibility –

September 2008 – DEWALT, a leading manufacturer of industrial power tools, announced the launch of the Site-Pro™ Modular Guarding System for all portable DEWALT table saws including the DW744X, DW744XRS and DW745. The Site-Pro™ Modular Guarding System is a three-part, modular system that includes a rise and fall riving knife, anti-kickback pawls and top guard. This tool-free, adjustable guard system provides contractors with an easy-to-use blade guard that offers a clear line of sight when making cuts, and minimizes installation and removal of guard components to 30 seconds or less.

The tool-free riving knife helps to reduce the occurrence of kickback and allows users to easily change riving knives in order to accommodate for various blade thicknesses. Additionally, the riving knife can be situated in two different positions for making through cuts and non-through cuts. A spring-loaded lock helps users quickly find the detents for each position. There are two riving knife options – the first riving knife included with DEWALT table saws is 2.2MM thick and is compatible with 10” blades having a 2.4MM minimum kerf width and 1.7MM body thickness. This will accommodate both DEWALT construction and precision trim blades. A second, thicker riving knife, DW7442, is 2.8MM thick and is available as an accessory that is compatible with 10” blades having a 3.0MM minimum kerf and 2.5MM maximum body thickness. This will accommodate most woodworking blades, but the user should confirm plate and kerf measurements with each blade manufacturer.

Working in tandem with the riving knife to reduce kickback, the tool-free anti-kickback pawls enable users to quickly make adjustments for various applications. The new top guard design offers users enhanced visibility and independent side guard movement for better overall performance. DEWALT has also added a tool-free throat plate which will allow for easy blade removal and riving knife adjustments.

Additionally, on-board storage is provided for easy tool transportation and quick access to the Site-Pro™ guarding components and push stick when they are not in use.

DEWALT EXPANDS EXISTING MITER SAW LINE – INTRODUCES 10" DUAL BEVEL SLIDING MITER SAW

Press Release

-- Patented Features Provide Accuracy and Best-in-Class Cut Capacity --
May 2008 – DEWALT, a leading manufacturer of industrial power tools, today announced the launch of its new 10" dual bevel sliding miter saw (DW717). The DW717 is designed with innovative features and patented technologies to provide end users with a high levels of accuracy, capacity, durability, portability, and ease of use. The saw is ideal for trim carpenters, stair builders, installers, woodworkers, deck builders, remodelers, framers, custom builders, and general contractors for several applications, including base and crown molding, casing, cabinet installation, wood flooring, deck and furniture building, shelving, and stair rail installation.

Accuracy

For increased accuracy, DEWALT designed the DW717 with a patented precise miter system, which allows users to make repeatable and accurate miter cuts. A machined base fence support system provides a more rigid fence that helps to ensure the fence remains perpendicular to the blade, promoting more accurate cuts. Additionally, the saw is designed with a stainless steel miter detent plate that has ten positive detents for cutting accuracy and consistency. The detent plate is adjustable and keeps the saw square during transportation.

Capacity

The DW717 offers best-in-class crosscut capacity, allowing users to cut a 2" x 14" piece of material at 0° and 2" x 12" materials at 45°. Additionally, the DW717 has an innovative tall fence and arm design that provides best-in-class vertical capacity, allowing users to cut 6" base molding and 6 ¼" crown molding against the fence. The DW717 also has a bevel capacity of 0° – 48° and a miter capacity of 60° degrees to the left and 51° degrees to the right.
Durability and Portability

For extended power and performance, the DW717 has a 15 amp motor. A two-piece aluminum guard and Lexan® protects against side impact for added jobsite durability. Additionally, the Lexan® increases blade visibility, allowing users to see the blade without a glare. The DW717 10" dual bevel sliding miter saw weighs 51 pounds and is designed with a built-in side handle and a built-in carry handle for increased comfort and portability.

Ease of Use

For added versatility, the new saw is equipped with a cam lock miter handle that quickly locks the saw in place when performing miter cuts. Additionally, DEWALT created a miter detent override system, enabling the user to fine-tune miter adjustments without locking into the standard detents.

The DW717 is also compatible with the Crosscut Positioning System (XPS™), an additional light source attachment that helps to increase productivity and cut alignment.

DEWALT's Multi-Base Router Kit Gets It Right

Review from page 92 in October 2002 issue of WOOD
under "Shop-Proven Products."

I have a personal rule against buying multi-anything

tools because each function typically compromises the others. DEWALT's new DW618PK multi-base router kit is an exception to the rule.

The heart of the system is the fixed-base DW618K,
boasting soft-grip handles and a 2-hp, soft-start, electronic
variable-speed motor. That removable motor also snaps into a matching
plunge base or D-handle base. I cut some hefty mortises using the
plunge base and detected no hint of strain from the machine.

Instead of rotating the motor in the fixed base to
adjust the height, the DW618K's twist ring smoothly threads the motor
up and down without rotating it. That means the power switch stays in
one place: within easy reach of your thumb. In a thoughtful nod to
left-handed users, DEWALT
engineers designed the motor so you also can mount it with the switch
on the left side.

Speaking of user-friendly engineering, the DW618K's
detachable power cord makes the changeover to the D-handle base
hassle-free. Simply twist the base of the cord to remove it from the
motor, plug it into the base on the handle, then plug the D-handle's
short cord into the motor, as shown above.

The true test of a multi-base kit is its plunge base,
and this one proved fluid-smooth and steady. It also has
through-the-plunge-post dust collection, which effectively cleared the
chips from even deep mortises. My only gripe about the plunge base is
that the beefy depth-stop rod hides a fair amount of the depth scale.

Almost as impressive as the performance is the number of
accessories that come with the DW618PK. In addition to the fixed and
plunge bases, the $250 kit includes a carrying case, 1/4" and 1/2"
self-releasing collets, two clear Lexan subbases (one that accepts
Porter-Cable-style guide bushings, and one with a larger 2-1/2" bit
opening), and a neat concentricity tool--the cone-shaped gadget in the
foreground of the photo--that centers the subbase (or your router table
insert plate) over the collet.
